Dear Pepperdine Campus Members and Friends in Surrounding Communities,

We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to inform you that the upcoming Holocaust speaker event, originally scheduled for next Tuesday, November 14, has been postponed to the next semester.

The decision to postpone this important event was not taken lightly, and we wish to explain the reasons behind this difficult choice. In recent weeks, our community has faced unforeseen tragedies that have deeply affected us all. The tragic loss of four of our students has deeply affected our community, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this difficult time. Furthermore, our Student Body President, Michael Sugimoto, who was overseeing this event, was involved in a severe car accident last week resulting in a concussion, and it remains uncertain what state of health he will be in next week.

We are also mindful of the current world events surrounding Israel and Palestine, and, above all, want to ensure the safety and well-being of our entire community. As we navigate the complexities of the global landscape, we remain committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment where open dialogue and thoughtful discussions can take place.

In light of these unfortunate events, we want to ensure that the Holocaust speaker event is given the attention and respect it deserves. We are committed to providing an environment where our students, faculty, and staff can engage in thoughtful dialogue and reflection on this important historical topic. By postponing the event to the next semester, we can ensure that we have the necessary time and resources to make it the best possible experience for everyone involved.
We will work closely with relevant campus groups and experts to plan and prepare for the event. Our aim is to ensure that it promotes tolerance, education, and remembrance for the Holocaust. We hope that by the time we reschedule the event, we will have a more conducive environment for this important conversation.

We appreciate your understanding and support during this challenging time. We will keep the campus community informed of the new dates or any changes for the Holocaust speaker event in the Spring semester.

Thank you for your understanding and compassion as we navigate these difficult circumstances.

Very respectfully,
The Student Government Association
